11 years sober...

The life I thought I was giving up turned out to be the one I'd never actually had access to.

If you're in your 20s and someone tells you to get sober, it sounds like a life sentence — meetings, decaf, early bedtimes, the end of fun. That was the version I believed too.

I got sober on November 12, 2014, at 29. Eleven years on, I've spent ski seasons in Whistler, jumped out of planes, hunted, travelled, started over more than once. None of it would have been possible if I'd kept drinking — most of it I didn't even know was on the table.

Me at 22, drinking
ThenThis was me at 22 — I couldn't do anything without a drink in my hand.
Me now, sober, camping on a beach
NowThat's me now — camping on a beach, noodles cooked over a fire, no booze, with the love of my life. It's a long road but honestly worth every step.

This site is the one I wish someone had handed me at 22, when sobriety still sounded like the end of something. The last drink may feel like the end of it — but honestly, it's the start of something so good you're not even capable of imagining it.
